Chasing a nurse down the hallway postpartum - North York General Hospital, Toronto, Ontario

2000 - Second birth, excellent recovery, wanted to leave after 12 hours, but it was the middle of the night. In the morning a nurse comes, tells me she's going to take my baby and do something with him... a vit k shot? or something for the eyes, I don't remember what. She just scooped my baby up out of the isolette and walked fast down the hall way. I had to hobble after her. I said, in the hallway "can I come with you?" only a question in formality, I WAS GOING with my baby. She didn't give me an option for the treatment, didn't get INFORMED consent from me, didn't ask if I wanted to come with her, didn't ask if she could hold the baby, I could have held the baby myself and walked down the hallway. And most off all she didn't have to speed walk down the hall with me hobbling after her. She did all this intentionally, to prevent me from saying no to the treatment in the first place.

I got what I wanted, she got what she wanted, but she didn't need to be a difficult b*tch about it. I don't trust the medical system or the staff.

Guard your baby, even in the hospital.
Have a home birth
