PAP Test But Still a Virgin - Clinic - Toronto, Ontario

November 11, 2023 - I was referred to a gynecologist by my family doctor after being told I have three fibroids. I was asked a lot of questions in her office, and I made it clear that I have never had sex. She offered a pap smear and a biopsy of my uterus. I experienced a lot of pain for the pap smear and when she started the biopsy I had even more pain. Each time I complained she expressed disappointment, saying I can do it but the expression on her face was like "what is the matter with you?"

I did not complete the biopsy because it was too painful. After she left I noticed redness on the paper of the table, which I ripped off and plan to show my doctor. I called her a week later to tell her I was injured and she told me that I said I was sexually active, but I had made it clear that I was a virgin and had only digital insertion 25 years ago!! She had asked me several times in the office. She explained repeatedly that the pap is just a small brush inserted into the vagina. I said that it was the SPECULUM that caused me pain! I told her that I was not informed of potential pain or bleeding and if I had I would not have done the test. She said sorry at the end of the conversation.

I was in pain for several days and had watery discharge for almost two weeks. I left the clinic ashamed and a bit confused. I later became angry that I was injured and felt gaslighted by a professional that I was supposed to trust. I am now committed to educating myself about healthcare and various procedures, and I will never fully trust a doctor's opinion.

I am celibate for religious reasons, so for me to have been injured made me quite upset. I plan to speak to my family doctor
